Back Under the Stars: High-Detail Jupiter with Io’s Shadow
Finally back at the scope after four long months of terrible weather and freezing temperatures here in the GTA!
This imaging session features Jupiter in great shape – with the Great Red Spot clearly visible, Io’s shadow crossing the disk, and plenty of detail in the bands and zones. Some nice outbreaks are also showing up in the SEB (South Equatorial Band). Hope you enjoy the view!

Jupiter dual capture on March 8, 2026: Celestron 8″ SCT + ZWO ASI224MC. IR-CUT filter (first image) delivers natural colors and visible-light belt/zone detail; Astronomik ProPlanet 642 BP IR-Pass filter (second) boosts contrast, sharpens features, and performs better when atmospheric turbulence is not good.
